The value of occupational therapy in the treatment of mental distress.

Often when people experience mental illness they find that the things that they used to do become harder to do. This can be anything from making a cup of tea, going for a walk or cooking a meal. It can be overwhelming to consider even getting out of bed. As an occupational therapist I specialise in helping people get back to doing the things that are important to them.

Everyone has particular activities that they participate in during the course of a typical day. These activities can loosely be categorised into productivity, leisure and self-care. If you are experiencing depression for example you may find that you no longer participate in any of your previous leisure activities, that you no longer find enjoyment in anything. As an occupational therapist I can work with you to enable you to return to doing the things that are important for you.
